Shells!

Shells are, to me, one of the most gorgeous things on this earth, and yet it hasn’t eluded me that these are essentially the bodily remains of living animals. They come in so many variations, and like every person on this earth, each is perfectly unique. These shells have lived various lives, and seen many tides, and so I try to treat them as such.

The shells I create art from are all found by me, or (very rarely) have been a find in a charity shop. I will never remove a shell without thoroughly checking that is is not home to another living creature, (unless I intend to eat that creature).

I also try to be selective (something I’ve needed practice with) in what I take and what I leave behind, as local shell-ter availability might be limited for the marine life, and often these beautiful remnants are what provides this.
